ADHD Awareness Month

Hello, and Welcome
![]() | G’day, I struggled with undiagnosed ADHD for forty-six years, feeling like I didn't fit in anywhere. Since my ADHD diagnosis, I have spent the past twenty-six years reading, researching and testing every aspect of adult ADHD with the desire to become the very best version of myself. Here are a few things I’ve learned along the way…. |
ADHD - Awareness Month
October is recognised as ADHD Awareness Month and is an opportune time to delve into some of the realities faced by adults with ADHD and to highlight both the challenges and the potential benefits associated with it.
First, don’t underestimate the impact ADHD can have on your life. It impacts every area, from relationships to health, finances, careers, achievements and general overall well-being and happiness.
It impacts those around you. Your family and personal relationships and workplace relationships.
Use ADHD Awareness Month to take some time to think about how you can better manage your ADHD to benefit both yourself and those around you.
From my personal experience, I have neglected the impact my ADHD has had on my family. While it was never intentional, it has caused unnecessary stress, pain, and heartache for those I love. I still struggle dealing with this and knowing how to manage my ADHD to lessen the downside for others.
I find it hard to listen attentively to my spouse, my brain gets bored with idle conversations or boring discussions. My wife feels guilty that she can’t be more understanding or helpful in dealing with my ADHD. I was totally unaware of this until very recently, and we have been together for eighteen years and have been married for sixteen of those years!
Louise has been incredibly understanding and supportive. She has given up a lot to stay by my side, and I feel I have failed her.
I am going to use October ADHD Awareness Month to be more aware of the negative impact my ADHD has on our relationship and hyper-focus on how I can use my positive ADHD traits to improve our relationship and quality of life.
I would appreciate your help and comments just drop me a note here, or reply to this email.
Living with ADHD as an adult presents a unique blend of challenges and opportunities. By increasing awareness during ADHD Awareness Month, society can begin to better understand these complexities and provide support that enhances the quality of life for those affected. The key is recognising that while ADHD can be a hurdle, it also brings distinct and valuable strengths that can be harnessed with the right mindset and tools.
Have a great October!
