ADHD - Personal 2025 Manifesto - Jim Livingstone - ADHD Optimist

G’day,

I struggled with undiagnosed ADHD for forty-six years, feeling like I didn't fit in anywhere.

Since my ADHD diagnosis, I have spent the past twenty-six years reading, researching and testing every aspect of adult ADHD with the desire to become the very best version of myself.

Here are a few things I’ve learned along the way….

ADHD - Personal 2025 Manifesto

Manifestos are declarations of intent.

A personal manifesto is more than just a New Year’s resolution; it’s a comprehensive guide for living with deliberate intention and purpose by providing structure and framework to organise your thoughts and priorities, helping you maintain focus on what’s important.

Clarity of Purpose: It helps you articulate your core beliefs, values, and life goals. By defining what matters to you, you gain a clearer sense of direction and focus for the year ahead.

Motivation and Inspiration: A personal manifesto acts as a source of motivation, inspiring you during challenging times. It reminds your ADHD short-term memory of your ideals and what you’re striving for, helping you to take action and persevere.

Consistency and Routine: Having a manifesto helps reinforce the importance of daily routines and consistency. It can serve as a reminder to stick to these routines, which can be helpful for managing your ADHD symptoms.

Decision Fatigue: Having a clear plan and set of priorities as a constant reference point can reduce decision fatigue and stress related to everyday choices and tasks.

Accountability: By setting down your intentions and goals, you create a framework for accountability. It becomes easier to track your progress and assess whether your actions are aligned with your stated principles and objectives.

Self-Reflection: The process of writing a manifesto encourages introspection and self-discovery. It allows you to evaluate past experiences, learn from them, and identify areas for personal growth helping to better understand your strengths, weaknesses, and triggers.

Empowerment: Crafting a manifesto can be empowering, as it affirms your ability to shape your life and make decisions that are true to your principles rather than being swayed by external pressures.

Vision Creation: It helps in visualising your idea year, setting short, medium and long-term goals, and formulating a plan to achieve them. This can provide a sense of certainty, direction and purpose throughout the year.

Resilience Building: Having a clear manifesto can help you navigate change and uncertainties more confidently, as you’re anchored in your core beliefs and priorities.

Communication: A well-thought-out manifesto can also be used to communicate your values and goals to others, which can foster deeper connections with those who share similar aspirations or support your vision.

Recharging and Setting Boundaries: It helps in identifying the importance of downtime and setting boundaries, ensuring you allocate sufficient time for rest and rejuvenation, thus using your energy and time more sustainably.

Overall, a personal manifesto acts as a compass that guides your decisions and actions, helping divert your focus and energy towards pursuits that truly matter, leading to more efficient use of resources and a more purposeful life.
