ADHD - Stress Less
Have you ever done anything stupid under stress? Here are a few reasons why this happens:
When we are under perceived or real stress, our body's response is designed to prioritise survival. This can sometimes lead to behaviours that might appear irrational or "stupid."
One hundred thousand years ago, our stress response was kept us alive. In today’s world, it just gets us in the sh!t.
Stress triggers our fight-or-flight response, releasing hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones prepare the body to react quickly to perceived threats, but they can also impair rational thinking and decision-making. Constant stress will kill you if you let it.
Stress increases your mental workload, which can overwhelm your mind, making it difficult to think clearly and calmly or make well-considered decisions. This overload can lead to impulsive and irrational thinking.
During stress, our emotional brain (limbic system) can take over from the rational brain (prefrontal cortex), leading to decisions driven by immediate emotions rather than logical reasoning.
